Straight out of the box..

The first model that I bought that got me back into the hobby was the Minichamps 1:18 Audi TT 1.8T Quattro 255bhp, as the new collecting goal plan was to collect cars that I’ve actually owned as a real car. I didn’t realise when I ordered it, that it would be a sealed diecast model being as the last time I bought a new 1:18 model car was back in 2010 and Minichamps did full opening models.
The model comes in the usual windowed box but it is considerably longer than it needs to be. mounted on a plastic plinth.

In detail the exterior.

As with my 2002 Audi TT, its painted in red, which in the case of the 1:1 version is a metallic red, although not in this case its just a nice bright plain red. The finish on the paint is good and what is to be expected of a Minichamps model. The Front of the model is likeness to the real car, with the smoothed in lights and grille, the flared wheel arches and over the wing bonnet, this being a plastic affair on the real car. the projector lights are well done in the black headlamps. closed mesh grilles on the front with the Audi 4 rings logo and a small Quattro badge.

The side profile of the Audi TT is probably its best profile, sporting 18″ alloys on my real car I wrapped the roof black so I did the same for this model. one of the quirky, cool parts of the TT is the filler fuel cap, which is taken straight from the design on a race car. a little lip spoiler and the rear lights finish the aerodynamics on the rear of the model.

The rear of the TT on the 225bhp version sport twin exit tailpipes which sit nicely in cut-outs in the lower rear of the bumper, apart from a large tailgate and the small lip added by Audi TT to keep the thing on the roads at high speeds, the back is pretty sparse of any outstanding features, but from a sports car perspective I expect serves well with airflow and aerodynamics. On my real car on this model to make it a little different I did wrap the rear diffuser and taligate in black which I was quite pleased with how it changed the back of the car.

On all four corners the TT has 5 spoke alloys finished in silver there was an 18″ option with multi spoke wheels. behind the wheels you can make out the calipers.

In detail the interior space.

A nice nicely done and accurate interior is to be found inside the TT model, with the signature golf ball style vents, stereo cover with the TT embossing and dash dial knobs. the sporty binnacle is very well done as too the seats are well moulded and accurate overall a good effort. the door cards are very good with the netting effect replicated. My only niggle is that you can see the read body work above the door cars and windows (its a minor thing)

Verdict?

A must have purchase for me as any car that I’ve owned must make its way into my collection, its a faithful replica of the 1st Generation of Audi TT by Minichamps and should you want an early Audi TT there is this or the older Revell version, both have there own merits and should be explored before purchasing them. So in short even though its sealed diecast is is a very nice model and I wasn’t disappointed, hopefully neither will you.
