Straight out of the box..

The Mk4 Toyota Supra, well what can we say its a JDM icon, a powerful and highly tuneable 3 door sports car, which ever way you want to drive it, either road, track, drift or touge the Supra is one of those cars that can adapt to when its needed to perform , made even more famous in the Fast and Furious Franchises. The TRD 3000GT wore the same widened and wind tunnel-honed bodywork as the new GT500 class super-touring Supra.

So back in the late 90’s when I was collecting the only MK4 Supra in 1:18th scale was the then really great Kyosho model, nowadays its been reproduced by Ignition Models, Otto-mobile, Top Marques and now LS Collectables, but it is still highly sought after in the collecting circles and a reasonably difficult to acquire once it becomes discontinued.

In detail the exterior.

Being an Otto-Mobile model means lack of opening features, the exterior of this model is very well detailed, with the quad vented bonnet, whilst not mesh still gives an effect of mesh. The body kit on this TRD version of the Supra is very different than the Supra in Standard form, a very deep and low front bumper with 3 large inset fins make the car look much longer too. the Front lights are very nice with lens detailing and the 3 ring lights sitting behind the lens.

The side of the model has larger wider side skirts and a large vent in the front wings, sitting on TRD branded 5 spoke wheels the Supra TRD still retains that Supra look, not too overdone so that it is far removed from the original design, a good example of this being the Skyline R33 LM which from the side doesn’t resemble the Standard R33. The bigger TRD spoiler sits on the rear adding to the Supra’s aggressive stance.

Around the back is the Supra’s rear quad lights which for me I absolutely love stand out as a design feature that makes the supra recognisable. The slightly squared off bigger rear aero wing (spoiler) makes a bolder statement over the Supra’s spoiler which is still large in its standard guise and again many people don’t feel; the need to change it unless you need more downforce that is. The bumper has been extended at the bottom to give a lower diffuser look but is still subtle and almost looks standard.

Finally the wheels on this model are very detailed although a basic 5 spoke design, it has some nice decals and centre cap detail, behind the wheels sit a metallic disc brake with calliper. as with all modern models the tyres are rubber The wheels are finished in light silver finish.

In detail the interior space.

Its a sealed model so interior is inaccessible making photos difficult, the Supra has a two tone dash with the upper being grey and the insets are black, it is very well detailed, clocks and gauges look great, with a red and black 3 spoke steering wheel. Red front bucket seats in the front with large bolsters and the very impracitcal rear seats are also finished in red.

Verdict?

Overall Otto-mobile models represent excellent value for money as always, this Supra is another fine addition to a collection if you like JDM cars or Supra’s , once again if you got his model at launch then the price point was excellent, now at time of writing this (21st November 21) you will pay anywhere of £180 upwards for this silver version of the TRD3000GT, there is also a white version which is £500 on eBay!

Pros:

  • Great value for money
  • Great paintwork
  • Nice body moulding
  • Unusual TRD version

Cons:

  • Very delicate windows
  • Wheels sometimes are stiff
