Straight out of the box..

The new Supra may not be a true JDM car due to the fact that it is a collaboration with the German car manufacturer BMW, but that shouldn’t deter the JDM collector from grabbing one, I have two other versions, the GT Sprit ‘Fuji’ version and another Ignition Model which is the Pandem Advan Supra. I probably wont buy another A90 as my penchant lies with the A80 Supra, to me the most iconic and probably because it has undertones similar to my Mitsubishi FTO real car.

In detail the exterior.

Ignition are squarely focused on Japanese Domestic Market cars, This Supra is just another example of how Ignition models know their market audience. The sleek lines of the Supra A90 start at the front of the model the lower splitter helps widen the over front of the car, the real mesh in the bumper sets the tone for the detail for the rest of the car.

The front badge is almost real and clearly isn’t a sticker, instead a proper miniature replica of the real badge and its these details that separate Ignition Models from other model makers. The lights just like its older brother the A80 are what will make this easily identifiable from being from the Toyota Supra line up, the lights are just perfect – crisp and detailed. The bumper even has the parking aids moulded in to it.

I love me a 2 door coupe, especially when they come from Japan, once again I’m going to reference my Mitsubishi FTO, its almost timeless in its design, this resonates in the Supra, its got gorgeous lines, starting from the over-wing bonnet with the subtle vents, a bonnet design similar to a the 1st Gen TT’s, on this version Ignition models has opted to add some ‘tuner’ decals on the wing.

The door sweeps up into the rear bodywork, bolstering the wide body kit’s line up into the rear high quarter panel, the roof line rakes into the back of the car joining up with the rear boot which sharply changes the direction perfectly to add a bit of aggression but not to much.

I can only think up one word for the rear of this Supra, that word is ‘squat’ , the rear of this car is wide and means business , the added lip on the body spoiler raises the rear profile. Badge work is brilliant with the same badge work on the rear as the front, the supra logo sits perfectly and even the small GR badge is there with all the detail you need, I have to wear my glasses to see this much detail!

The rear light clusters mould themselves into the rear wings with the wide kit and rear vents, below the curvy rear bumper is the diffuser, which isn’t short of detail, the lower rear brake light and two rear reflectors each side and overall the rear diffuser is really well moulded finished in matt black. Twin titanium rear exhaust pipes protrude each side of the car and finish the back of with a pop and bang (I’d imagine)

Lastly is the Wheels and Ignition Model generally do an amazing job on the wheels, this large 5 spoke rim with a gun metal inner and chrome lip are an exact match for the Supra. Behind the wheel sits grooved discs and Project U brake callipers.

In detail the interior space.

The downside to any sealed resin model is that capturing the interior detail is very difficult (without removing a window- that’s a no from me) but the details are there, red and black scheme throughout, on the steering wheel, door cards and seats are high quality, its just really hard to capture and made even more so by the Supra’s small windows.

Verdict?

It is not difficult to see why Ignition Models are sought after, their ideas and options they put in their models is synonymous with how the real car culture adapts and modifies the real life counterparts. The stance on this A90 Supra is perfect, it just sits right when on display. The paint is excellent and the attention to detail is what you’d expect from a mid priced model, this said occasionally there are imperfections as they are built by humans so not perfect every time, mine has some minor over paint on a front parking sensor, minor it is and not a concern to warrant a rant.

This is the first model that features on my website using the backdrop, I think it makes the model almost indistinguishable from its real counterpart, let me know if you agree or disagree on whether a backdrop is better than a white background?

Pros:

  • Gorgeous paint
  • Right Hand Drive (true JDM)
  • Decent interior
  • Excellent wheels
  • High Quality and Detailed

Cons:

  • bit pricey outside of Japan
  • you may encounter minor paint details (very minor)
