Straight out of the box..
I Love Mitsubishi sports cars, having owned more than a few FTO’s and driven a GTO Twin Turbo and been in a passenger in Lancer Evolution cars, to have all the available generations of Evo’s that are made in 1:18 is a mission of mine.
Harking back to early 2000’s when really it was only the Evo 6 variants made by AutoArt that were available and I had a few of them in my collection. Eventually AutoArt released the 7 8 & 9, which became highly sought after in the next decade, strangely though they never went back to the earlier versions. So when I kickstarted my collection again in 2019 I found that there was so much more variety in the Evo’s you could get going back to the Evo 2. So my major (overpriced!) Evo purchase was from One Model and it was a model of the Mitsubishi Evo 4 and its AMAZING!
The One Model packing comes in a magnetic matte finished box which folds out to reveal the model in a display case attached to a plinth, I’m not sure if the perspex display case is a normal inclusion for a One Model or if the person I bought it from had it made or made it themselves. Overall very nice packaging.
In detail the exterior.
This generation of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo has the trademark big fog lights moulded into the aggressive air sucking front bumper, the lights have a excellent lens detail in the glass and nicely trimmed out with a chrome bezel. The large bumper cut outs house some really nice mesh material the centre one has the intercooler behind it, the under splitter is also very nicely moulded and fitted. Above the bumper is the grille same deal with a nicely done Mitsubishi badge. Main lights as per the fog lights are also excellent in detail with nice dark orange repeaters, leads nicely on to the double vented bonnet which has the large vent which is meshed and has inner grille detail as a nice addition.
The side of the Evo is a four door saloon body type and that has been exclusively 4 door through its lifespan. Styling on this version is one of my favourites, the low front bumper and cars rake sits perfectly and adds to the overall stance. Its front lip spoiler rakes up on the bumper, the side repeaters are moulded in to the wing. the double swage lines open the cars lines up going to the rear, the subtle but necessary side skirts have nice lines and each end has a raised design leading into the arches, the rear bumper lower moulding leads nicely onto the where the side skirts end. The huge trademark rear spoiler finishes that trademark Evo look.
At the back end is where the Evo 4 has it going on <3 this is the generation when they changed the design drastically changed to make the car more aggressive, its high 2 piece spoiler with the embedded brake lights. The new shape lights in the triangle form is very well done and this design aspect matured right up to the Evo 9. Its inset boot lid with the number plate and inset tiny boot lock show the detail put into this model. The rear bumper is clean with a nice bottom lip housing the large bore exhaust often called the ‘Jap Can’ style when talking about exhaust tips.
This Lancer Evo 4 uses OZ racing wheels which are well detailed and painted, sitting behind is the grooved discs with the worn effect being used, they do rotate and the callipers are also present and remain static while the disc rotor turns.
In detail the interior space.
Being sealed the interior is hard to access but its nothing special, that’s not a knock at One Model, as the interior is well done and accurate, its just bland with strange patterning on the inset of the racing style Recaro seats. This is defiantly a JDM thing as my 1995 Mitsubishi FTO suffers from a plain interior with patterns on the seats and I believe some Skylines had the same style seating. overall though its well done, dials, door cards and seats look well moulded. being a JDM car it is a right hand drive.
Verdict?
No brainer I needed this and paid a price to have it in 2019, I’m sure its going to be difficult to acquire now in 2021 and beyond, so we can only hope that another model manufacturer makes an Evo 4 hopefully Ignition models, Otto-models or even AutoArt.
So its a great model for a JDM collector or scale collector, well painted and constructed, very nice detailing , easily on par with an Ignition model. Overall an Excellent mould which has created a perfect rendition of the mighty Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 4!
