Straight out of the box..

Arguably the most recognisable Ford performance hatch the ‘Ultimate Green’ Ford Focus RS, has become a legend car, based on the MK2 Focus and sharing the Platform with its ST cousin its a sought after car and that reflects on the Model side of the market too. Previously only Minichamps offered this RS in 1:18 and although it was a full open diecast, this offering from Otto Mobile stands against and in my opinion in the area of paint this Otto takes the crown. Without further ado lets get on to the model..

Concealed in the usual white label box that Otto models come in lies the Focus RS, even though I’m not a ford collector (yes I have some iconic fords in my collection) there are certain models that I do feel a need to have, this is one of them because mainly the colour when displayed pops in amongst the other models. So lets talk about the paint, I’m not going to waffle on all day , you get the point , the paint is awesome and looks the closest I’ve seen in a model to the 1:1 car, nuff said!

In detail the exterior.

starting at the front you’ll find the low open front bumper complete with grille mesh, nicely done fog lights protrude from the sides of the opening, towing eye covers and headlight washers are moulded into the body. The Ford badge dominates the middle of the real mesh grille and the newer style RS logo in blue sits nicely in the grille, above is the bonnet brow of sorts (I’m guessing we can call it that).

The Headlamps are excellent and have the mesh effect below them, the crisp internals of the lights clearly show the effort that has gone in this model. the bonnet has the bonnet vents in it that have made their way onto most other recent DIY ford builds!

The side profile of the RS is where it comes to life, the subtlety flared wings and rear quarters , connected by the 2 piece side skirts. the front wing holds a small vent design which has the RS emblem proudly on show. The side repeaters are located in the wing mirrors, but they do appear to be painted on rather than a lens.

The gloss black of the wing mirrors is repeated on the huge WRC style rear wing. The tinted rear windows add to the effect of the contrasting ultimate green paint work. Shut lines are very nice, with an all-round uniform gap which separates the chassis from the bumpers and side skirts.

Round the backside of the model, the dual exit exhaust tips protrude from the big diffuser, the RS’s wide arches blend effortlessly into the rear bumper with its vented fog lights and reverse lights are housed, the rear hatchback is exactly that a hatchback of a Ford Focus but with a massive WRC spoiler that when added to all the other RS touches makes the rear of Focus RS show its Rally pedigree. The 19″ RS branded Alloy wheels are very accurate and I’m glad they aren’t black!

In detail the interior space.

The interior is as always a difficult area to capture in a photograph, but this is a very nice interior and true to the RS Focus real interior albeit in minuature, dial , vents , gauges , seats are all very well done and don’t forget the price point €59.90 if you were lucky enough preorder it (when the website crashed) is a fabulous price for the detail your getting.

Verdict?

There is a good reason that this model sold out on Otto-Mobile’s website in 2 days, the paint work, details, they way it sits, its just a fantastic model and its on a level with the Minichamps version even though that’s a diecast model the Otto version seems to look better in terms of proportions especially the rear spoiler I can’t put my finger on it. A must have if you like your Fords!

Normally if you didn’t get a Otto-mobile 1:18 model on preorder you could expect to pay about £95-£110, this Focus RS has seen initial sales on eBay of £135 upwards and I think it may be an expensive model in a years time (Q4 2022) , so get one now whilst you can!

Pros:

  • Great value for money
  • Exterior paint Excellent
  • Very good interior
  • Accurate Proportions

Cons:

  • None 🙂
  • The model may become hard to find at a reasonable price in the future. Not really a bad point just be aware.
